Social Protest

Ordinary people have often confronted more powerful opponents expressing their grievances and demands for restitution. The forms or types of collective actions taken vary widely, ranging from more conventional strategies of political persuasion such as petitioning and legal demonstrations, to more disruptive tactics such as strikes, sit-ins and occupations, to more violent acts that inflict material and economic damage and loss of life. Just as societies have transformed over time the forms of social protest have changed over time. Social protest from our earliest history to today is a potent and effective motor for social change.
