
International Program Director (Head of Department)

- Strategic direction. Provide leadership on matters concerning the international programs. This includes responsibility for leading the development of the overall strategic vision for the department in conjunction with the General Secretary.
- Inspire, lead and involve personnel in the department. This includes ongoing competence development of employees in accordance with SCD's strategic needs; providing employees with both formal (start-up/year-end conversations) and ongoing input and feedback on tasks and priorities as well as supporting commitment, motivation, well-being and collaboration in the department; ensuring an optimal organization of the department, including developing, recruiting and retaining talented employees and succession planning in key functions; and ensuring planning of employees' work and attendance, holidays, etc. so that the department can at any time respond to, for example, disasters and critical issues.
- Financial stewardship. Ensure overall management of departmental budget, including reporting and budget follow-up as well as ensuring that employees are financially covered in accordance with budget, effective pipeline management, etc.
- Senior Management Team and cross department engagement. Actively participates in the Senior Management Team of SCD and seeks solutions for challenges facing the entire organization. Promote collaboration internally in the department, between employees and across departments and in relevant management forums, including contributing to cross-functional thinking, coordination and optimization of processes and resources across the organization.
- Influence the direction of the wider Save the Children movement on key priority areas of work where SCD has specific expertise and interest.
- Representation and engagement. Ensures continued strategic relationship with key stakeholders externally, with a particular focus on Danida as a key strategic partner; and internally in meetings of the SCD Executive Board and its committees; represents SCD to SCI/A at a senior level including engagement in the Global Program Directors group.
- Accountable for award management and donor compliance: ensuring systems, procedures, and capacity in place to follow donor agreements and projects with country, region and other SC members and partners.
- Demonstrated management skills at Director level including personnel, financial and commercial stewardship. Experienced in leading leaders.
- Solid experience with strategic and operational International programming obtained through at least 10 years international experience with at least five years in senior leadership roles.
- Experience with living and working in conflict areas, fragile states and humanitarian contexts
- Documented results with fundraising/ establishing high level partnerships
- Experience with alliance-based organizations.
- Previous success with the development of high performing teams
- Solid business understanding documented through previous results obtained.
- Strong English language skills
